Dorothy BowersDorothy Bowers is a chemical engineer with 40 years experience in environmental management, including 25 years at Merck & Co. where she developed the worldwide environmental program. At retirement, she was the Vice President responsible for environmental issues. Bowers has been been involved with standardization efforts by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) since the creation in 1991 of ISO Technical Committee 207 (TC 207) for the ISO 14000 family of environmental management system standards. She chaired the subcommittee writing the standard on environmental performance evaluation, ISO 14031, published in 1999. In ISO TC 207, she led the first group to focus on the concerns relating to the participation of developing countries and co-led the TC’s first strategic plan. She co-chairs a liaison group on social responsibility and she recently led the updating of the TC’s business plan. For three years, she chaired the US Technical Advisory Group (TAG) for ISO TC 207 and when ISO created a work group to write a standard on social responsibility, she was elected to chair the US TAG for SR.

Joe CascioJoe Cascio has recently been appointed by President Bush to serve as the Administration’s Federal Environmental Executive (FEE). As such, Cascio is responsible for spreading the use of environmental management systems based on ISO 14001 within the US federal bureaucracy. Prior to his appointment, Cascio was a consultant with Booz Allen Hamilton, having assisted numerous ISO 14001 clients in both the private and public sectors, including headquarters functions of federal agencies and departments. He was the founding chairman of the US Technical Advisory Group to International Organization for Standardization Technical Committee 207, which is responsible for developing and advancing US positions related to the ISO 14000 family of standards. He co-authored ISO 14000 Guide published by The McGraw-Hill Companies and edited The ISO-14000 Handbook published by then CEEM Information Services. Cascio turned to consulting upon his retirement from IBM in 1996 and has since delivered more than 700 speeches and presentations, lectured at various universities and testified before congressional subcommittees on environmental management systems. The Office of the Federal Environmental Executive is a White House-based office responsible to implement administration policy on federal environmental stewardship. The office is associated with the White House Council on Environmental Quality, which includes the president's senior environmental and natural resource advisors.

Charles CorrieCharles Corrie is secretary of subcommittee 2 of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee 176 (TC 176), which is responsible for drafting ISO 9001 and ISO 9004 on quality management systems. He is a business program manager with British Standards Institution in London with responsibility for the ISO 9000 series of standards as well as OHSAS 18001. His work with Subcommittee 2 led to the subcommittee being selected to receive the prestigious Lawrence D. Eicher Leadership Award for ex­cellence in creative and innova­tive standards development in 2004.

Nigel CroftNigel H. Croft recently became chair of Subcommittee 2 of International Organization for Standardization Technical Committee 176, which is responsible for drafting ISO 9001, the most widely used quality standard in the world as well as the recently published ISO 9004 guidance standard for attaining sustainable success. One of the world's foremost experts on the standards, Crost is also the author of ISO 9001:2008 Small Changes Big Opportunities. Among his many professional activities, Croft is Associate Director and/or Non-Executive Board member of a wide range of both commercial and non-profit organizations in the UK, Switzerland, Middle East, Asia and South America. Since he began his career in 1974, Croft has had extensive practical experience in the implementation, operation and assessment of quality, environmental and health and safety management systems in the United Kingdom, Norway, the United States, South America and Asia. One of the many hats he has worn was that of co-convener of the ISO 9000 Advisory Group (IAG) dubbed the super committee by some experts because of its unusual mix of ISO 9000 accreditation bodies, registrars, standards experts and conformity assessment experts. He has been active within ISO/TC 176 since 1995, serving as task group leader for the introduction of the ISO 9000:2000 standards, as a member of the TC 176/CASCO/IAF transition policy group, and as chair of the Conformity Assessment Liaison Group. He is also a member of the TC 176 Chairman’s Strategic Advisory Group. Within the conformity assessment community, he represents TC 176 at the International Accreditation Forum (IAF). Born in the United Kingdom, but currently with dual British and Brazilian citizenship, Croft holds a first class honors degree and a Master's degree in natural sciences from Cambridge University, England, a doctorate in metallurgy from Sheffield University and post-doctoral research experience at the University of California at Berkeley. He is a Chartered Engineer in the United Kingdom, a Fellow of the Chartered Quality Institute and a Senior Member of the American Society for Quality.

Joseph De FeoJoseph A. De Feo is president and executive coach at the Juran Institute. As a leading executive coach he is recognized for his training and consulting experience in enabling enterprises to achieve business excellence worldwide. His varied areas of expertise include: coaching executives to understand key factors in driving enterprise-wide change programs, and developing and deploying breakthrough management principles like Lean and Six Sigma, strategic quality planning, and business process improvement. In serving a wide range of businesses as a senior level trainer and coach, De Feo works with his team to increase sales, reduce costs, and improve customer satisfaction through the deployment of system-wide business process improvements. He has supported executives in industries such as consumer products, defense, financial services, government, healthcare, higher education, and manufacturing. De Feo is the co-author of two books. The first, Six Sigma Breakthrough and Beyond, co-authored with the late Dr. William W. Barnard and published by McGraw-Hill in 2004, is a popular resource and presents a roadmap for integrating Lean and Six Sigma into the strategic and tactical framework of an enterprise. With the goal of helping managers at all levels learn the benefits of moving beyond initial Six Sigma efforts to achieve sustainable bottom line results, this book provides insightful, energetic and at times humorous means to illustrate and develop executive role understanding. His most recent publication, Quality Planning and Analysis for Enterprise Quality was co-authored with the late Dr. Frank Gryna and Dr. Richard Chua. This university text is used by more than 55 professors around the country and has also emerged as a standard for training quality engineers and Black Belts.

Oswald A. Dodds, MBE has a background in the public sector with more than 33 years Oswald Dodds, MBEexperience in delivering and managing services to local communities. He took early retirement from the sector and now has a range of business interests and is active in the public, private and voluntary sectors. From June 1993 to July 2008, Dodds served as chair of subcommittee 1 of International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee 207 (TC 207), which is responsible for ISO 14001, 14004, 14005 and 14006 on environmental management systems. He served as co-convener of the Social Responsibility Task Force of TC 207, as a member of the Chairman’s Advisory Group, the Joint Technical Coordination Group (JTCG) and led the JTCG Task Force on management systems. He was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1996 for his services to local government. The Order of the British Empire recognizes distinguished service to the arts and sciences, public services outside the Civil Service and work with charitable and welfare organizations of all kinds in the United Kingdom.

Randy DoughertyRandy A. Dougherty is vice president of the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB) in Milwaukee. He oversees the activities of a staff of five and 25 contract auditors. Dougherty holds a master’s degree in public health administration from the University of Michigan, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Lake Superior State College. ANAB is the recognized national accreditation body in the United States for management systems certification and is a member of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF), a signatory of the IAF multilateral recognition arrangements (MLAs) for QMS and EMS as well as a member of the InterAmerican Accreditation Cooperation (IAAC) and a member of ANSI. Dougherty has 30 years of experience in third-party conformity assessment. He was the president and CEO of NSF-ISR, Ltd., a QMS and EMS certification body, from 1996 to 2000. He was employed by NSF International, an ANSI-accredited standards development organization and third-party product certifier, from 1975 to 1996. Dougherty joined ANAB in March 2001. A former chair of the IAF Technical Committee and member of the IAF Executive Committee, Dougherty was recently named to chair the IAF organization. He is co-convener of ISO/CASCO WG 21 that is drafting ISO/IEC 17021 (ANSI appointed expert), and a member of the ISO/CASCO Chairman’s Policy and Coordination Group. He is co-convener of the ISO 9000 Advisory Group chartered by ISO TC 176, the IAF TC, and ISO CASCO. He is a member of the IAF-ILAC-ISO Joint Working Group, a member of ANSI’s International Conformity Assessment Committee (ICAC), a member of the Americas Aerospace Quality Group Registrar Management Committee, the Americas Sector representative for the OASIS database and a member of the International Aerospace Quality Group Oversight Team and OASIS sub-team. He is also chair of the IAAC Certification Body Subcommittee and a former member of the International Automotive Sector Group for QS-9000.

Armando EspinosaArmando Espinosa is president and founder of Instituto LatinoAmericano de la Calidad (INLAC), the Latin American organization for quality. He is a past president of the Asociacion Mexicana de Ingenieros Mecanicos y electricistas, a professional organization for mechanical engineers. He worked for Mexico’s national oil company, Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), for more than 30 years starting in 1960. Espinosa held various high-level positions at PEMEX including commissioner in Japan and chief of engineers in Europe. He sits on the Chairman’s Strategic Advisory Group to TC 176 and leads INLAC’s participation to the international quality management committee as a liaison member and also to ISO TC 207, which is responsible for the ISO 14000 family of international standards.

Henry GrynHenry Gryn retired from DaimlerChrysler in September 2006, where he was the company’s representative to the International Automotive Task Force (IATF), which is responsible for ISO/TS 16949. He began his career with the automaker as a technical cost planner and was manager of external quality programs at the time of his retirement. During the drafting of TS 16949, it was Gryn who suggested that the quality management system must be effective. “The word ‘effective’ was mine,” Gryn acknowledges. His career with the automaker spanned 22 years.

Lorri Hunt has more than 10 years of experience implementing quality management systems in Lorri Huntdiverse businesses such as Honeywell, the Department of Energy, and small businesses as well. She is an active member of the US Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO Technical Committee 176 (TC 176(. She serves as the chair for the United States group responsible for developing consensus positions related to ISO 9001 and 9004. She also served as the international Deputy Task Group Leader for the current amendment to ISO 9001. She frequently contributes to quality publications and journals and was a contributing author to the ISO 9000:2000 Handbook and co-author to the upcoming Insiders’ Guide to ISO 9001:2008. She is a frequent speaker at conferences and is most often recognized for her common-sense approach to implementing ISO 9001. She is the president of Lorri Hunt and Associates Inc.

Robert H. King Jr. recently retired as president of the ANSI ASQ National Accreditation Board Robert H. King, Jr.(ANAB) in Milwaukee. ANAB operates accreditation programs for certification bodies that register clients to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 and associated sector schemes. King was responsible for enhancing the strength of existing ANAB programs and for responding as markets demand expansion into new areas. His duties included overall general management with a marketing emphasis and international focus. ANAB is the successor organization to the ANSI-RAB NAP. King was vice president, Supply Chain NAFTA (Polymers), with Bayer Corp. He joined Bayer in 1985 and progressed to become a market manager, national sales director, and then vice president with the company. Prior to joining Bayer, he was with Dow Chemical. King served as a captain in military intelligence in the US Army. He earned a bachelor’s degree in international studies from the University of South Carolina.

Edwin Piñero was recently named international chair of ISO Project Committee 242 (PC 242)Edwin Piñero Energy Management, which will be tasked with drafting an international standard on energy management. He was appointed by President George W. Bush in September 2004 to serve as the Federal Environmental Executive (FEE) in the Office of the Federal Environmental Executive. In January 2008 Piñero left the administration to become Director of the Pollution Prevention Center with the Golisano Institute of Sustainability, Rochester Institute of Technology. Prior to being appointed by President Bush, Piñero served as Deputy FEE since January 2003. Previous to that, Piñero was owner of Piñero Consulting, an environmental management consulting firm based in Landisville, Pennsylvania. He also worked for then-Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge from 1998 to 2001 as director of the Bureau of Environmental Sustainability in the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, as well as serving as Pennsylvania's Energy Director. Over his 25-year career, Piñero has worked for various environmental consulting firms, taught graduate courses in environmental management for Duquesne University, and was an oil and gas exploration and production geologist with Mobil Oil Corporation (in Dallas and Denver). Piñero has a Bachelor’s Degree in Geology from the State University of New York and a Master's Degree in Geology from Texas A&M University.

Trevor SmithTrevor Smith is the immediate past chair of International Organization for Standardization Technical Committee 176 (ISO TC 176), which is responsible for the ISO 9000 family of standards. A former worldwide director of quality at Eastman Kodak Company, Smith is principal of Quality Integration Solutions, where he brings over 30 years of international business experience in manufacturing, organizational supply chain and service industry sectors. He has demonstrated strong leadership in the development of consensus-based international standards and has driven business results through the integration of management strategies and Lean enterprise approaches. He has broad expertise in business process assessments, quality management, organizational strategy development, change management and is recognized as an experienced speaker and trainer in international conferences and workshops.

John SurakJohn Surak is founder of Surak and Associates, a food safety and quality consulting service. He works with the food processing industry in developing food safety and quality management systems, designing and implementing process control systems, and implementing Six Sigma and business analytics systems. He also delivers programs in a number of developing and emerging economies, including Egypt, Pakistan, Peru, Malaysia, Argentina, Mexico and China. He led the US delegation to Working Group 8 of ISO Technical Committee 34, which developed ISO 22000, the international food safety management system. Surak is a fellow with both the American Society for Quality and the Institute of Food Technologists.

Bob White is president and owner of BRI Inc. With more than 30 years experience providing top Bob Whitemanagement with inspiration and a process for Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainable development, he has trained trainers and management consultants in Canada as well as a number of developing countries. He is an advisor on standards for trade and sustainable development to business associations and their members in many countries including the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Brazilian Industry and the Confederation of Indian Industry. His experience includes leading teams of management and staff, including consultants and trainers to operate manufacturing units, water treatment facilities, food and beverage processors and also to integrate a process for corporate social responsibility and sustainable development based on best practice standards and models. Mr. White represents Canadian industry and business on the ISO committee for the new standard on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and Sustainable Development, ISO 26000 Social Responsibility.

Craig Williams is corporate director of quality and performance improvement with Eaton Craig WilliamsCorporation, a diversified power management company. Eaton is a global technology leader in electrical systems for power quality, distribution and control; hydraulics components, systems and services for industrial and mobile equipment; aerospace fuel, hydraulic and pneumatic systems for commercial and military use; and truck and automotive drivetrain and powertrain systems for performance, fuel economy and safety. Williams has more than 20 years of manufacturing experience in various industries including pharmaceutical, graphic arts, aerospace, fluid power, electrical, and automotive. He is a senior member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and vice chair of TG 9001/9004 of the US Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to TC 176. He serves as a US expert on the international drafting committee responsible for ISO 9001:2008 (TG 1.19 of ISO/TC 176/SC 2) and represents US interests on the Chairman’s Strategic Advisory Group (CSAG) of TC 176. He is a former chair of the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) Quality Steering Committee, a former chair of the Special Process Project Team, contributing member of the APQP Manual Revision Team and co-author of the soon to be released book, “Insiders Guide to ISO 9001:2008.”
