During my time I had the opportunity to interface with some of the world’s largest petroleum companies and organizations. I traveled and met with customers in Scotland, England, Norway, the Netherlands, France, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Kuwait.

The petroleum industry had operated for many years without any quality intrusion from anyone. The industry standard was simple: If something worked, it was fit for use. Along with the SPPE program, massive petroleum projects in Alaska and the North Sea emerged. It was around this same time that customers decided to start sharing failure costs with suppliers.
